Mila’s 2nd birthday, peacock themed…. it rained, we didn’t care (ok, i did at first, but Mila thought it was the best day ever.)

Seriously?

Seriously?

Alright, so I’m follow suit of an instagram dump…

1. Our first hot day in almost a month! So it was time for Mila’s first strawberry malt at the local 50’s diner.

2. My house is flooded with fresh air and spring flowers, it seriously makes everything better.

3. my morning wake up call, every day.

4. Rainy day penny rides from Sandy the horse.

5. late night story time since someone napped for 3 hours that day.

6. Mila new drum set from her Uncle Justin for her birthday, (which is in a few very short days!)

Since these are the last days of Mila being a one year old, I felt I needed to get onto my computer for once and actually type something that I can look back on and say, “oh yeah…Mila was doing this and that back then.”

She has developed some independence, but she still loves people being around and really rarely runs off to do her own thing, but with that she’s not very shy…. which becomes a problem if a stranger looks way more interesting then me…

My favorite phrases that Mila says are…

“Meow Meow cat, GET BACK HERE!!”

“Mama, wait for me!”

“rockin-a-baby in a tree top” (every time she picks up a baby doll)

“Love you much mama” (love you much is now our families little catch phrase since Mila started saying it.)

“NAKED BABY!!! LOOK MA NAKKKYYYYY BABY!!!” (as soon as you take off her diaper)

We have yet to really take a good stab at potty training, I know that all the brilliant children can place their bowels in a toilet before age two, but my child is completely content with sitting in her diaper of her own filth, and refuses to tell me when she has to or has already gone. The one day we really tried hard to see if it was time, she took two poops on the ground, and 5 pees on the floor….although one pee made it in the potty, it still didn’t feel like much of a victory.

The use of utensils has improved a bit… but since we mostly eat raw fruits and vegetables she honestly just hasn’t had a ton of practice… but that one I guess is just another slap on my old wrist.

Colors; pink, green, orange, yellow, purple, brown and white Mila recognizes and will announce what colors shes sees all day long. Along with counting… she can make it to 6…and then just repeats 5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6 ect… until someone stops her.

I’ve been reading up on this whole, non forced learning method…which sounds stupid, I know…when I first read an article on it I thought, “why not try your hardest to teach your kids everything possible!?” but the more I looked into and, it seemed to really make an impact on me. It’s this whole theory that kids will more or less just learn to remember the things you show and teach them, and yes, they will know things sooner the more you influence them…but ultimately, they will lack problem solving skills or the ability to fail, and then keep re-trying till they figure it out. While I still love reading and pointing out the world around us to Mila, I have stopped, “telling her” how to play with certain toys or trying to turn ever play time activity into a school lesson. The reason I started all this is because I started noticing that if Mila couldn’t figure out a toy, or puzzle, she would throw it, get pretty upset with herself, then just ask if I’d do it for her… I want to be able to give her the power to have confidence to fail, and try again, not just be a high text score in a class room. Now, if any feather got ruffled, I didn’t mean to do so… different methods work for different kids…and different things are important to different families… and I recognize that… I still just feel like I’m learning new things about parenting every day.

Yee haw!!
